HBA SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA PRESENTS

Your Next Chapter: Thriving through a Career Transition

This 90-minute session is designed for HBA members who are navigating expected or unexpected career transitions or contemplating a transition. Laura Costain and Tanja Powers, both executive leadership coaches and former biotech leaders, will share their own journeys and lessons learned. Together, they will facilitate a discussion around best practices and resources needed for navigating this change. Both will tell you that a supportive community (like HBA!), including others moving through change, has been instrumental in helping them navigate.

Speakers
Laura Costain
Laura is an Executive Coach who empowers purpose-driven leaders to build exceptional teams and lead sustainably through change. She founded On Purpose Leadership after a successful 15-year career at Genentech, where she held multiple leadership roles in Global and US Marketing and Transformation Coaching. Laura's reputation for success with people and strategy made her a sought-after founding member of a team of Transformation Coaches tasked with driving significant organizational change across 4,000 people at Genentech. Her coaching efforts resulted in a redesigned, more customer-centric field organization and helped teams embed effective work practices that permeated throughout the organization. This hands-on involvement provided her with profound insights into the pivotal connection between exceptional leadership, team dynamics, and tangible business outcomes.

Tanja Powers
Tanja is an executive leadership coach and non-profit board member based in Oakland, CA. She has over 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, with significant leadership roles in sales, marketing and patient access. She left Genentech in 2023 after serving as their Vice President of Ophthalmology in the U.S., responsible for a $2B P&L and the launch of blockbuster Vabysmo. She is now leveraging her empowering and collaborative leadership approach in her coaching business and in a variety of philanthropic roles. During her corporate career, Tanja led large organizations, significant change initiatives, product launches and commercialization strategies. She spent a significant amount of her career focused on U.S. payers, negotiating product coverage and leading the account and marketing teams responsible for product access. She is passionate about creating, growing and supporting high functioning teams and is known for her empowering approach and ability to collaborate across complex organizations.
