Many of us are aware of the pay discrepancy between women and men in the United States, which has seen only incremental progress over the past 60 years. On average, women still make only 79 cents for every dollar a man makes and given past trends, it is projected that pay equity won’t be reached until 2059. There is still a long way to go, as many institutional and cultural factors contribute to economic inequality for women, including unconscious bias in hiring and promotions, male-dominated cultures and insufficient family leave and flex-time policies, to name a few. There is no doubt that a multifaceted solution is required from all parties to combat this dismal trend. As women push for fair treatment in the workplace and outside of it, it is critical that we also take a personal stake in our finances, as how we demand and manage money can significantly shape our path ahead.

For employees of all levels, a key component of success is being compensated for the work we do and at a fair rate or salary for our services or product. As an attorney for over 35 years, Fran Griesing has advised clients on all phases of the employee lifecycle, especially around financial matters. As an employee and leader in a company, it’s essential to learn how to assess your value and advocate for it, setting the tone for your career as well as those you manage and sponsor.

Fran will discuss methods for negotiating your employment contract including compensation and benefits that reflect your worth, advocating for yourself in terms of raises and promotions and understanding the legal underpinnings that guide fair treatment in the workplace. The program will include case studies from her own experience as an attorney and business owner, including common challenges women face at work around fair compensation and how to handle them. Attendees will leave with actionable strategies for negotiating for themselves, clients, vendors and fellow employees, so that women leaders have the tools to reach their full economic potential and set an example for those around them.

Lite fare is included in the cost.
