Rebecca Vermeulen R.Ph. brings a variety of experiences and capabilities to her role as Customer Strategy and Patient Partnership for Global Medical Affairs at Roche. She has spent 26 years in the pharmaceutical industry and has served in a variety of functions including Medical Affairs, Clinical Research, Sales, Medical Communications, Medical Science Liaisons, Patient Partnership, Digital Health, and Six Sigma. Rebecca has lead teams spanning multiple organizational units and has been responsible for creating global standards for information exchange with healthcare professionals and patients. She has served as a senior leader dedicated to empowering patients and HCPs to make informed health decisions for a number of years and knows how to demonstrate value in bringing new medicines to patients. Rebecca is currently Vice-Chair Board of Directors for the DIA (Drug Information Association), Vice-Chair Corporate Board of Directors for the HBA (Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association), and serves on the Advisory Committee for PFMD (Patient Focused Medicine Development).

Simona has over 20 years of diverse finance and business experience, a strong record of delivering business results and is passionate about people development. Simona leads the corporate financial planning and analysis group at Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS), managing the financial process for the total company, providing analyses that guide senior leadership decision-making, as well as preparing analyses to support BMS' chief financial officer and investor relations. She started her career with BMS in 2000, and has consistently demonstrated strong leadership in a variety of finance roles of increasing responsibility within global manufacturing, mergers and acquisitions, R&D, enterprise services and US pharmaceuticals, as finance lead for the cardiovascular, neuroscience, diabetes and Puerto Rico businesses. Simona mentors numerous women at BMS and created financeGIVEs, BMS’ innovative program that allows financial professionals to bring their financial expertise to nonprofit organizations in Africa. She is currently the secretary/treasurer and on the board of the Healthcare Businesswomen's Association (HBA). Before joining BMS, Simona worked at the board of governors of the Federal Reserve in Washington, DC and in banking in South Africa. She has a BA in economics from Kalamazoo College, an MBA in finance from Columbia University and is a certified public accountant. Originally from Romania, Simona resides in Princeton, NJ with her husband, three active children and family dog. She enjoys travel, beach, exercise and family time.

Angela has extensive experience across acute and chronic disease categories and has developed winning business solutions that uniquely drive market growth for the companies she has worked for and with. Angela completed her master’s degree in communication management with an emphasis in strategic marketing from the Annenberg School at the University of Southern California and received her bachelor’s degree in speech communication from the University of Alabama.

Laurie Cooke is the president and CEO of the HBA. Laurie is a dedicated advocate for gender parity, speaker, thought leader, PharmaVOICE 100 most inspiring people in life sciences and ASAE Mentor of the Year. Laurie served on PMI’s executive management team; and prior to nonprofit management work, she served in increasing senior roles ex-US with Hoechst, Hoechst Roussel, Hoechst Marion Roussel, and Aventis working across all pre-clinical to post approval areas including phase I biometrics, project management, process improvement, and late stage team effectiveness. Laurie began her career as a head hospital pharmacist in Washington State. Laurie graduated with a degree in microbiology from University of Maryland, advanced scientific degree in pharmacy from University of Washington, masters in Software Engineering Management from University of Luton, England. She is a licensed pharmacist and certified association executive. Laurie has lived and worked in Europe, New Zealand and both US coasts and currently lives in the Philadelphia main line with her husband and four active pets.

Liz Paulson has over 25 years of varied experience in healthcare as a provider, a sales and marketing executive, and in the clinical research sector. Currently Ms. Paulson serves as a Account Executive at LexisNexis Healthcare. She works with claims data to develop commercial strategies for pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device companies and is the chair of the Women’s Connected group for King of Prussia. Prior to joining LexisNexis, Liz worked in the development of new product offerings, marketing and sales at Adheris an inVentiv Health company. Liz has also worked in Health Economics and Outcomes Research at i3 Innouvs (now Optum), Pharmetrics, and IMS. Prior to her work in Health Economics, she worked in sales for Eli Lilly. Prior to working in the Pharmaceutical and Biotech sector, she worked within the Departments of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities in Massachusetts, providing behavioral consulting and emergency services to patients. In addition, she worked to develop medication training programs across both DMH and DDS, to foster patient compliance, and reduce hospitalizations. Ms. Paulson holds a B.A. in Psychology from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. She has been a member of the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association Boston Chapter since 2004, volunteering on the membership and programs committee, and has held all positions on the Executive Committee for the Boston Chapter and is currently serving her second year on the HBA corporate board as the lead for the regional councils and all chapter and affiliate executive teams. In her free time she coaches girls soccer and basketball.

Previously, Julie served as senior vice president, global strategic services for a $2B, top five CRO and had oversight of eight global functional areas focused on innovative methods for reducing the time and cost within clinical trials inclusive of feasibility, patient recruitment and retention. Prior to that, she was a corporate officer and EVP of a full-service CRO and patient recruitment company. Julie has over 25 years of clinical research experience, has participated in fundraising, mergers and acquisitions, authored many clinical research articles and is a well-known industry speaker. She is a change management expert who has successfully led multiple company integrations, implemented a variety of cutting edge technologies and platforms, and served six years as board president for a nonprofit community group where she navigated a headquarter change twice and raised money through angel investors. Personally, Julie is a wife, a mom to four grown children and practices servant leadership. Julie is a 2014 and 2016 recipient of PharmaVOICE’s Top 100 Most Inspiring People and is currently serving as a director at large on the HBA board. Julie is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse with a bachelor's degree in nuclear medicine technology.

Ozge oversees a global team responsible for developing and governing key pricing and bundling strategies in support of Pearson’s product, portfolio, channel and key business strategies in support of the adoption of Pearson’s digital transformation. Ozge joined Pearson from General Electric where she was the senior director of global marketing for GE Healthcare, a $20 billion business unit of General Electric that provides transformational medical technologies and solutions to the global healthcare industry. Ozge joined GE Healthcare in 2012 as the director of customer and market insights (CMI) for Eastern and Africa growth markets leading and growing the company in the emerging markets of Turkey, Central Asia, Russia and CIS, Middle East and Africa. In two years, Ozge was promoted to co-lead pricing and CMI functions responsible for all aspects of pricing strategy and management, customer and market insights across all 79+ countries in the region and subsequently relocated to Boston area to transform pricing strategy for USCAN region of Life Sciences Core Imaging Group.

Erik D. Smith, Ph.D. is a Principal with Deloitte Consulting’s Strategy Practice. For over 15 years, he’s worked across health care, including manufacturers, payers, providers and others in the space – both in the US and around the world. The majority of Erik’s work has focused on the commercial side of bio-pharma, covering corporate, BU, franchise, product and country levels, across numerous therapeutic areas, asset and product stages. Erik has delivered new strategies and tested those already in use, for clients at all levels, including Boards. He’s launched innovation initiatives, and updated risk management programs. Erik brings particular expertise in understanding uncertainty, both for long-term strategy and for short-term tactics. He’s an advanced user of scenario planning and other simulation approaches, has published on the subject, and taught training courses. With HBA, Erik has served on the Advisory Board of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter, and more recently on the Advisory Board for the West Region as well as the Strategic Alliances Committee for the Board. Erik holds both a Ph.D. in demography and an M.A. in socio-cultural anthropology from University of California. Berkeley, and a B.A. in political science, with minors in social ecology and philosophy, from UC Irvine.
