Career Conversation 8 - Emotional Intelligence at Work

Please note this webinar will take place from 12:00 PM to 1:15 PM Eastern Daylight Time. Please convert into your local time zone and mark your calendar accordingly.

Webinar description
The ability to communicate positively and effectively is the most foundational of leadership skills. What does it mean to be emotionally literate? What impression do you leave with others? And does your emotional wake help or hinder your ability to build relationships and influence others?

Join this essential discussion and learn about the seven emotions and five competencies associated with emotional intelligence and how to apply this knowledge to your own professional/work setting.

HBA is pleased to welcome Shawn Kent Hayashi to the eighth webinar in the Career Conversations series. Shawn is founder and CEO, The Professional Development Group, LLC and executive in residence for Lehigh University’s MBA program. A certified emotional intelligence coach and consultant, she is also a best-selling author of multiple business books including Conversations That Get Results and Inspire Collaboration, Conversations for Change, Conversations for Creating Star Performers, and Mastering Your InfluenceTM.  Shawn received an MS in organizational dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania.

Providing an executive lens to this discussion is Susan Torroella, executive vice president, screening operations, Wellness Corporate Solutions, LLC. She was formerly president of FrontierMEDEX medical assistance services, where she oversaw the delivery of both healthcare prevention services and treatment coordination for employers' workforces during their international assignments. Susan was involved in orchestrating rescue operations following the Haiti earthquake, Arab Spring and other international incidents. She served as vice president of United Healthcare International following the acquisition of FrontierMEDEX. Susan earned an MBA from the Thunderbird School of International Management and also attended INSEAD (France) and Wharton's executive management programs. She is a past president of the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association.

Moderating this conversation is Laurie Wessels, president of the Wessels Group. Laurie is a leadership development coach, consultant and trainer. She works with executives, teams and emerging leaders, blending strategic planning and decision making, and leadership behaviors to enhance organizational effectiveness and sustainable leadership. Prior to coaching, she spent 15 years in the pharmaceutical industry. She is a past president of the HBA Chicago chapter and a member of the HBA Career Conversations team.
