Webinar - Career Conversation 13: Organizational Savvy - Valuable Unwritten Rules for Career Success

Please note this webinar will take place from 12:00 to 1:00 PM ET. Please convert into your local time zone and mark your calendar accordingly.

Webinar description
We were raised with the expectation that if we worked hard and got results, we'd be rewarded. Many women don't realize until late in their careers, often when they hit their first major setback, that there's more to forging a successful career than hard work and great results. Why were you the last to learn that a project has been canceled? Why is your request for help from Bob's team always ignored? Why have you not been selected for a high-profile assignment?

It's easy to stew with frustration over unfairness without realizing that there are unwritten rules of engagement in effect in the workplace. Uncovering these unwritten rules is the essence of becoming organizationally savvy. Mastery at applying organizational savvy is what you must strive for.

This conversation will open your eyes to a new perspective, a different view of your work environment. You'll learn how to build your organizational knowledge — and knowledge is power. You'll hear how masters of organizational savvy combined organizational knowledge with strategic people skills. By applying this approach to situations that you encounter at work, you will get results with less effort, be at the right place at the right time and impress the right people with your insights. This conversation will conclude with insights into how masters of organization savvy artfully negotiate future career opportunities and paths.

The HBA is pleased to welcome Gayna Williams to the Career Conversations webinar series. Gayna Williams is the founder of If She Can I Can, and she's on a mission to increase the presence of female leaders in the world. She plans to achieve this by helping women to achieve the careers they dream of and deserve through career coaching workshops, writing and speaking engagements. She also works with corporations to understand the business value of women and where gender-bias shows up in engineering processes and practices which can lead to negative impact on the success of products.

Providing an executive lens to this discussion is Deborah Coogan Seltzer, director, services management, and a member of the life sciences practice of executive search consulting firm Spencer Stuart. Deborah also holds the distinction of being awarded the 2016 STAR (Strategic Transformation Achievement Recognition) for standing apart as a truly exemplary role model by demonstrating a long-term commitment to the HBA’s strategic goals of furthering the advancement and impact of women in the business of healthcare.

Moderating the conversation is Laurie Lucas, principal of L3 Healthcare Marketing. Laurie has held executive leadership positions in medical education and communications companies including Discovery Chicago, where she was vice president/group account director, and at ProEd Communications, where she was executive vice president. Laurie is director at large, chapter programming, membership and volunteer engagement on the HBA board; prior to that, she served on the board of HBA Chicago.
