If you are looking to participate in these development opportunities, this program is designed for you.
• Build a community of women
• Create strong peer networks
• Establish and foster career goals
• Teach or learn critical leadership skills
• Give back to other women in your community and your profession
• Learn from others about how to manage work-related challenges
The objective of HBA Southern California mentoring program is to harness the power of the group to provide guidance, resources and support to mentees who set and work toward goals. Mentoring takes place in groups of six.
Each mentoring group is made up of two mentors and four mentees who establish their own goals and meetings in-person over the course of six months. Participants will be matched into groups based on geography, experience and skills, common challenges and diverse experiences.
Mentor or mentee?
As a mentee you should be able to devote the time to fully participate in, and help lead your group. This is a mentee-driven program, and the more you put in, the more you will gain. Plan to devote at least three to four hours each month to really engage in, and benefit from this program. Be ready to invest in yourself, take stock, set goals, stretch yourself and be open to the advice and support you'll receive from seasoned healthcare executives and your team.
As a mentor you are ready to give back to others and share your knowledge and requisite professional
experience (and know that you will gain a lot from the process, too). As a mentor, you do not provide all the answers, but help your mentees make progress toward their goals by identifying resources, asking questions, offering guidance, giving feedback and sharing your experiences and perspective. Plan to devote at least four to six hours each month to support your mentees.
The registration fee includes:
- A mentoring kickoff dinner event
- Orientation and skill building
- Six-eight group mentoring sessions
- Final celebration dinner event to recognize and celebrate individual and group accomplishments
Kickoff and mentoring group attendance
We are kicking off our mentoring program with a dinner event on April 5, 2016. Attendance at the kickoff event and meetings of your mentoring circle (schedule/venues determined by each group) is required.
Applying for the 2016 group mentoring program is a two-part process:
1. Register for the program via this page; mentees and mentors pay the course fee now*
2. Complete the application survey, which will be sent to applicants via email immediately following registration.
*Mentees and mentors must complete this registration process and the application survey in order to be considered for the program. Any applicants not assigned to a mentoring group will be notified via email and their course fee will be refunded in full.
Mentees and Mentors must be HBA members.
This is an HBA-members only program. If you are accepted into the program, elect to participate, and are not a current HBA member, you must join the HBA prior to the kickoff event. Please note:
• The HBA annual membership fee is separate and distinct from the course fee.
• The HBA annual membership fee is not refundable (so make sure you have been accepted into the program and have made the decision to participate before joining).
Mentees: $290
Mentors: $0
Note: Space in this program is limited, and applications will be reviewed in the order in which they are received. During the review/matching process, consideration will be given to the committee’s ability to align mentee needs with mentor expertise, and the ability of applicants to attend the kickoff event.
