HBA EUROPE REGION PRESENTS

Who benefits from a Gender Equal Society?

Gender equity is often interpreted as a zero sum game, men lose so women can gain: gain in position, power, remuneration etc. There has been a lot of dialogue about the contrary being true. The body of evidence is growing to demonstrate who the true winners are. Join a real GEDI (gender, equity and inclusion expert) to discuss the merits of gender equality.

The HBA Europe Impact Committee hosts yet another impactful conversion with a high profile thought leader Chidi King, Branch Chief Gender, Diversity and Inclusion at the International Labour Organisation (ILO). They will explore the tensions that lie beneath the premise that gender equity benefits the economy, workplace, home and mental wellbeing of current and future generations.

Additional information on our speaker, Chidi King: Chidi King is Chief of the Gender, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Branch, part of the Conditions of Work and Equality Department of the International Labour Organization. The only tripartite U.N. agency, since 1919 the ILO brings together governments, employers and workers of 187 Member States , to set labour standards, develop policies and devise programmes promoting decent work for all women and men. The Branch strives for the elimination of discrimination, including based on gender, race, ethnicity, indigenous status, disability and HIV status; utilising an integrated and intersectional approach. Before joining the ILO Ms King was Director of the Equality Department at the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), where she led work with trade unions on pay equity, the care economy, gender-based violence and harassment at work, women's leadership, young workers, and rights of migrant workers. Ms King has also worked as Equality and Rights Officer for the Public Services International, a Global Union Federation, and as Employment Rights Officer for the Trade Union Congress of the UK. A lawyer by background, she has spent over 20 years providing legal and policy advice on issues of equality and non-discrimination with various private, public and voluntary sector organization.
