HBA PACIFIC REGION PRESENTS

Executive Coffee Chat with Neil Gunn

HBA's Executive Coffee Chats are a new program catered toward our senior members, which offers more intimate and focused conversation with others who are similarly senior in their career. It is members-only and limited in attendance.

Neil brings over 30 years of Medical Device and Diagnostics experience. He has a comprehensive knowledge of the diagnostic market, global product development, clinical, quality and regulatory processes, strategy development and commercial operations. He also brings deep insight from his years at large and small companies. Neil is currently CEO of IDbyDNA, a precision metagenomic company headquartered in the Bay Area, California. The company is developing an innovative approach to infectious disease diagnostics that utilizes Next Generation Sequencing.

Prior to joining IDbyDNA Neil was the President of Roche Sequencing Solutions (RSS) where he oversaw all aspects of the business and managed a team of ~ 900 people. While much of the Roche sequencing business is in the product development phase his team developed and launched over 20 products a year as part of the clinical work flow, analysis software or assays run on commercial available sequencers. Prior to his role as President of RSS he held the role of Vice President in Roche’s Molecular Diagnostic business unit. During his eight year tenure he was responsible for over 120 diagnostic product launches (Instruments, assays, Software) with the principle focus on IVD clinical market and a fully regulated process.

While he has been based in Europe and the US his long international career has allowed him to develop knowledge of the global market conditions and environment in all major business geographies. Neil holds a Ph.D in Marine Microbiology and an MS in Biology from Portsmouth Polytechnic, UK as well as a BS in Biology from Nottingham Trent University, UK. He has been based in the San Francisco Bay Area for 20 years after he relocated from the UK with his wife Sarah, Daughter Jessica and Son Cameron in 2001.
