How to spot the potential for bias in the data you are training your AI with?
In the 1800s, the Industrial Revolution was visible through an expanding network of canals, telegraph wire and railroads. We are now on the cusp of another revolution, powered by human augmentation technologies — AI, autonomous vehicles, robots, augmented and virtual reality, and more — that are unprecedentedly lifelike and autonomous. This revolution is one of enormous speed, more so now as the COVID-19 pandemic places increasing demands on technological resources.
The AI algorithms make decisions based on the data humans have trained it with. As humans are innately biased in their decision making - making conscious and unconsciously biased decisions routinely – their AI creations fall under the same fate. Therefore, whilst these algorithms advance us leaps-and-bounds in terms of tackling some of the world’s most pressing issues, they can encourage mistrust and institutionalize discrimination on mass scales with limited transparency or accountability, reducing people’s opportunities to participate equally in economies and societies.
In this HBA-hosted and EY-facilitated series of webinars we explore bias in AI in detail. The first session was held on 25 November 2020 and covered several real-life examples, applications, and impact of bias in AI. In the second session on 10 February 2021 we took a closer look at how to detect bias in AI. In our third and last module of these series we will explore how to prevent bias and improve decision making to control your data.

- an understanding of what a trusted AI Framework is
- insights to how such a framework is applied in a real life scenario
- a strategic perspective to addressing trust AI
