Connecting with Seniors at the Holidays: Good for Them! Good for You, too!

As we ‘stay the course’ and remain physically distant from loved ones, it’s more important than ever that we connect socially in other ways, especially when our loved ones are seniors and, most especially, when they are isolated in nursing homes, in assisted living or even, in their own homes. If this hurts your heart, you are not alone. We understand. We also know that the impact of loneliness on seniors is horrific, with increased vascular and neurological diseases and premature mortality. The emotional stress they feel, especially anxiety, is known to predict all-cause mortality and is especially detrimental in people over the age of 75.

Join us on December 2 at noon for an open discussion to explore creative ways to navigate the holidays by helping seniors, those you know but also some you may not. The panel who presented two senior caregiving webinars earlier this year will lead off address emotions at the holidays and ways to deal with those. Then, we’ll collaborate to brainstorm ideas to help you reach out so please come with ways you’ve connected with seniors in the past, even when you were a kid! We’ll gather all of these ideas, provide those to HBA members through the Member Forum and send them to others in the business world in LinkedIn articles. We hope it will inspire others to reach out. We know from our experience that making even small efforts to help others during the holidays will lift not only their spirits, but ours, too!

We hope you can join us, but if you can’t and would like to contribute to the brainstorming, send your ideas to Glenna at Glenna@glennacrooks.com.
