HBA OLD OHIO PRESENTS

POSTPONED: WIS Event - Movie Night: Combining Science and the Cinema

Event details
Ohio Women in Science Event: This event is a twist on having a book discussion - we're going to watch a movie and have a movie discussion. In keeping with our theme on alternative careers in science, our movie will be "Temple Grandin" produced by HBO and starring Claire Danes. Temple Grandin, PhD, is a professor at Colorado State University, a best-selling author, an engineer, an activist for autism, and a consultant to the livestock industry on animal behavior. Even though she was diagnosed with autism as a child, Dr. Grandin has used her abilities to forever impact the food animal industry and to advocate for people with autism. This Emmy Award-winning film will inspire, enlighten, and teach us all.

Learning objectives
1. Identify how to potentially adjust communication styles when interacting with a person with autism
2. Apply principles from the movie to consider other career options in science
