HBA OLD CHICAGO PRESENTS

Cracking the Confidence Code

Event description
A recent study on the brain showed that after decades of discussion there is validation that men and women think differently. Because we are wired differently, men and women interpret and respond to information in different ways; these differences can affect our personal confidence.

We know “confidence” when we see it, or think we do. And we want it for ourselves. In their book, The Confidence Code, Katty Kay and Claire Shipmen deconstruct this essential, elusive, and misunderstood quality and offer a blueprint to bring more of it into our lives.

The authors identify five things that undermine confidence for women:
• “We think too much.” Excessive examination inhibits confidence because it can keep us from taking action.
• “We believe failure is a failure.” Instead, failing means we've been willing to try; it means we've learned.
• “We carry criticism around with us for too long.” Imagining our world (or our manager) is still focused on that thing involving us is a confidence killer.
• “We don’t leave our comfort zone.” Confidence comes from risk-taking, but we are too determined to be perfect.
• “We don't speak up, and too often we use upspeak.” It's a habit: raising our tone at the end of a sentence in a way that suggests a question rather than a declaration.

Let’s join together and “crack the code of confidence” for ourselves, with a panel discussion and workshop format.

The panel will discuss their experience with confidence issues. The workshop will allow participants to consider their own challenges and opportunities.

Learning objectives
1. Better understand the habits and thoughts that may hold back a woman’s confidence.
2. Discover what may be holding back your personal confidence
