HBA BOSTON-CAMBRIDGE METRO PRESENTS

Accessing Cutting Edge Science Through Innovative Models

Event description
R&D performed in-house is no longer the only path to a successful drug program. Biopharma’s research strategy is to pursue collaborative opportunities outside to bolster their pipeline and gain access to cutting-edge science. How do you fit into this changing scheme? Join us to learn about this trend, the skills it takes to be successful, and possible career opportunities. The panel represents diverse perspectives from the life sciences ecosystem and will discuss several models including university and biotech collaborations, build-to-buy investments and the use of CROs to reduce research costs. Our esteemed panelists include Susan Kalled, external sciences, Shire, Victoria Knight-Connoni, scientist, Cubist, subsidiary of Merck, Tom Luby, J&J Innovation Center and Arpita Maiti, external R&D innovation, Pfizer.

Learning objectives
1. Define emerging external models to access cutting edge science and increase innovation in the biopharmaceutical industry
2. Describe challenges faced with these models and the skills needed for successful implementation
3. Identify possible opportunities that may surface within these models and potential ways to gain skills and position yourself
