Read and connect - Book Club kick-off exclusive limited seats
We're excited to kick off our new book club with a discussion on Queer Data: Using Variety of Perspectives, Sex and Sexuality Data for Action by Kevin Guyan. In this groundbreaking book, Guyan explores how data about LGBTQ+ communities is collected, analyzed, and used, and why it matters. From census forms to dating apps, he reveals how data systems can both marginalize and empower, challenging us to think critically about whose stories get counted and whose get erased.
Join us for an engaging conversation as we explore questions like:
How do current data collection practices shape communities visibility and policy?
How can we center Community-Driven and Ethical Data Design
What are the risks and opportunities of being "counted"?
Whether you've finished the book or just started, all perspectives are welcome. This is a space for thoughtful discussion, shared learning, and community building.
Light refreshments will be provided. We look forward to seeing you there!
