HBA LA Chapter Book Club – Start With Why
This month, we will explore “Start with Why” by Simon Sinek, an influential book that challenges leaders and organizations to think differently about inspiration, motivation, and lasting impact. Through compelling stories and practical examples, Sinek introduces the concept that the most successful leaders and organizations begin with a clear understanding of why they do what they do before focusing on what they do or how they do it.
The HBA LA Chapter Book Club is designed as a collaborative learning experience where healthcare professionals come together to exchange ideas, broaden perspectives, and strengthen their leadership capabilities. Rather than focusing solely on the content of the book, we use its concepts as a foundation for meaningful discussion, self-reflection, and practical application in both professional and personal settings.
During this interactive session, participants will explore key themes from Start with Why, including purpose-driven leadership, inspiring action, building trust through authenticity, and creating meaningful connections with teams and stakeholders. Through guided discussion and shared experiences, we will examine how a strong sense of purpose can influence decision-making, organizational culture, innovation, and leadership effectiveness across the healthcare industry.
As with previous sessions, this book club continues to serve as a shared leadership platform where every participant contributes to the learning experience. Members are encouraged to share their insights, facilitate future discussions, and help shape the ongoing evolution of the group. Together, we are cultivating a community centered on curiosity, leadership development, and collective growth.
This initiative remains intentionally welcoming, practical, and leadership-focused—a space where a varied of viewpoints exist, ideas are explored openly, and participants are empowered to connect purpose with action in their careers and communities.
