HBA SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA PRESENTS

“Learning from and Leading through Failure” plus HBA Southern California Annual Business Meeting

Event details
From the time we were children, most of us were taught to avoid and abhor failure. That belief system flies in the face of the reality that failure is inevitable, especially in times of transformational change. What is the result? Dysfunctional perceptions, reactions and political maneuvering in the workplace and among leadership teams rather than the more rational problem-solving processes and decision-making approaches that would better serve our organizations, our teams and ourselves.

While some popular literature and blogs promote celebrating and learning from failure, they provide little guidance to address our predetermined beliefs about failure, nor do they provide diagnostic approaches and tools for leaders to distinguish between and strategically respond to different types of failures.  What is the result? Communication silos, finger-pointing, compromised productivity, and workplaces where high performers quit and leave, and everyone else quits and stays. Rather than getting caught in this downward spiral, this program answers the questions about how to lead through workplace failure with greater resilience, clarity and effectiveness.

Note: The HBA Southern California chapter will be conducting its Annual Business Meeting from 6:00 PM - 6:30 PM, where we will elect chapter officers and directors for 2015, review this year’s accomplishments and highlight upcoming programs. This session is open only to HBA Southern California chapter members in good standing. Appetizers, refreshments and networking will be available.

Learning objectives
1. Recognize the leadership challenges when dealing with mistakes, mishaps and blunders
2. Review a diagnostic approach for identifying the core issues of failure
3. Describe management strategies for conducting fair and open dialogues that promote shared accountability, problem-solving and issue resolution
4. Conduct the chapter’s Annual Business Meeting
