HBA RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK PRESENTS

Medical Tourism: The International and US Changing Landscape

Event Details:
It is often noted that quality healthcare is much less expensive in industrialized and developing countries outside the United States. Join us for an evening with two noted experts and learn more about the trend of international sites offering medical services at lower costs. Often patients, patient advocates, and healthcare providers wonder how this is possible. This program will discuss what impact this trend may have to influence US healthcare policies and what the US can learn from healthcare practices abroad. The speakers will address how the influx of foreign patients influences the quality of care for the residents of the service-providing country.  The medical and financial risks and benefits of traveling outside the United States for medical care will also be detailed, as will, the impact of consumer-directed healthcare and what US Hospitals are doing to compete.

The evening will begin with each expert presenting their vantage point and will conclude with a moderated Q&A session to probe deeper into their thoughts and vision of the future.

Learning Objectives:
1.    Gain insight into the advantages and risks for patients who travel to receive medical care.
2.    Learn the impact on the US and International healthcare system due to medical tourism.
3.    Discuss the impact of medical tourism on host countries.
4.    Learn what US hospitals are doing to stay competitive.
