HBA OLD METRO AREA PRESENTS

Empowering Career Growth: Role of Competence, Confidence and Curiosity

Event description
Whether you’re trying to make a lateral level move that offers a chance to broaden/diversify your current skill sets or wanting to reach a higher-level position with greater responsibilities, how often have you struggled with these questions?

• What can I do to best leverage my current skills to increase my chances of “getting my foot in the door” to interview and compete?
• What do I do when my current vault of skills don’t exactly match the qualifications the job description is looking for? How can I become a more diverse, valuable and competitive professional?
• How can I develop/sharpen my business & financial acumen especially if my background/education is not in the business discipline?

Beyond getting the interview and a chance to compete for the position, what can you do to impress the hiring manager and others involved with the interviewing and selection process?

Join Lisa Lord who will answer all these questions and more. Lisa is a dynamic and inspirational speaker and coach who has empowered leaders and individuals to transform themselves. Sometimes the job requirements for a prospective job or promotion may seem out of your capabilities, either based on past experience or your current skill set, which may discourage you from pursuing the position. Lisa will share:

• The 3 C’s (competence, confidence and curiosity): Important keys to why people are hired and promoted
• How to recognize your competence in areas that may not be your traditional strengths, and how the 2 C’s (confidence and curiosity) can help or hinder
• How to develop competence in critical areas where you may need to acquire new skills e.g. business acumen/strategy

Lisa will also share real-life examples on how you can apply the 3 C’s and how it inspired and transformed careers

Learning objectives
1. Advance your career, using and leveraging your skill sets with emphasis on how to develop business/finance/strategy acumen
2. Identify techniques to influence stakeholders to get you to “the right opportunity”
3. Recognize transferrable skills to sell yourself for a position when you don’t have all of the required qualifications in the job description
