HBA OLD GREATER PHILADELPHIA PRESENTS

A Friday Night Workout - CrossFit, Cocktails and Connections

Event description
CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program that utilizes functional movements that you find in everyday life including squatting, jumping, throwing, carrying, and running. Workouts do not utilize traditional “machines,” rather they incorporate combinations of sprinting, rowing, jumping rope, climbing rope, weightlifting, box jumps, ring dips, pull-ups, kettle bells, medicine balls, and many bodyweight exercises such as pushups, sit-ups and squats. These different exercises are combined in short, high intensity workouts to provide incredible results.

A qualitative research study, Transformational Leadership and High-Intensity Interval Training, was recently conducted by Dr. Carol Himelhoch, professor of management at Siena Heights University and published in MindBodyMed Press. The research objective was to evaluate the relationship between physical fitness and the transformational leadership style. CrossFit was used as criteria of entrance into the study and the findings were clear. The leaders in the study perceive strong ties between their training and their leadership. The sense of goal attainment and achievement is central to both. Mental grit and passion are necessary to be a strong CrossFitter and a transformational leader. To be successful in both, the leaders cited the need to remain open to risk-taking and change. Finally, measurement is used as a motivational tool both in CrossFit and leadership.

Come experience it for yourself and bring a friend. All ages and abilities are welcome. The workout will be customized to meet each participant's individual needs.
