HBA SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA PRESENTS

Being Heard - Leadership and the Language of Power

Event description
How do we get heard? Many women have had the experience of having great ideas, important information and powerful reasons to speak - but find people don't listen, interrupt or give credit to someone else who is saying the same thing. We can come up with a million reasons why this situation exists, but the real question is "What can we do about it?"

Fortunately, there are great techniques to help you. Cynthia Burnham, author of The Charisma Edge and an expert on leadership presence, will discuss how to calibrate language and voice so you are neither seen as "too nice" or "too aggressive." This includes looking at language which drains power, "pillow language" and fillers, vocal techniques, as well as language cues, clues and triggers to draw attention to what you have to say and make sure your brilliant ideas and critical information are actually heard by your intended audience.

Learning objectives
1. Strengthen your personal presence
2. Communicate effectively and powerfully
3. Learn language which triggers attention and focus in others - or lose it
