HBA RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK PRESENTS

RTP Signature Event: Disruptive Drug Development with Sally Okun, PatientsLikeMe

Event details
Sally Okun, Vice President for Advocacy, Policy and Patient Safety for PatientsLikeMe will be our chapter’s featured speaker for our 2014 signature event, “Disruptive Drug Development.”
Sally will explore how dynamic patient engagement is changing the face of drug development. She will discuss how patients are engaging in advocacy efforts, participating in patient-centered research and contributing their health data in innovative ways to hasten the availability of newer and better interventions for their specific disease states. Patient generated health data and involvement of this kind represents a departure from the traditional drug development model. Sally has been with PatientsLikeMe since 2008 and leads the company’s advocacy, policy and patient safety initiatives on a national and global level. Prior to joining PatientsLikeMe, Sally was a palliative care nurse specializing in care, clinical research, and education for serious and advancing illness. She has presented at TEDMED and other life science conferences.

Please mark your calendars now and plan to join us for an insightful and thought-provoking evening.

Learning objectives
1. Describe how patient participation and engagement is influencing the focus and prioritization of drug development within the life science industry.
2. Discuss the opportunities for life science companies to actively engage patients in all phases of the drug product life cycle.
3. Explain how patient generated and reported data can increase understanding and continuous learning about the real world impact of medical interventions.
4. Detail how social media and social networks are changing the way patients exchange health information and the potential to disrupt next generation drug development.
