HBA BASEL PRESENTS

Embracing Gender Aspect In Neurology

Did you know that nearly 180 million people globally are affected by disorders of the brain and that neurological disorders are responsible for over 9 million deaths per year?

Neurological disorders can affect anyone, young and old, and their impact is significant on the patient, their carers and the wider society. But how does gender determine the impact and outcome of neurological disease on the patient, families and the wider neurology community?

Embracing Gender Aspect In Neurology
During this interactive panel discussion, we will focus on understanding the Gender Aspects in Neurology and how each of them can be taken into consideration from a caregiver and patient perspective, and from a policy and medical perspective.

We will be asking ourselves:
- How important is gender diversity in research, including the structure and management of neurological clinical trials?
- Is there a difference between the male and female brain that impacts the management of neurological disease?
- Does the societal burden of neurological disorders equally impact men and women?
- Does gender play a role in the diagnosis of neurological diseases?

Roche in partnership with the Healthcare Businesswomen's Association (HBA) will have the honor of hosting Dr. Helen Fisher, an internationally-renowned neuroscientist and biological anthropologist and a pioneer in the biology of human personality and the neurochemistry of leadership (www.helenfisher.com).

Additional Information
Dr. Helen Fisher will be offering the opportunity to take her current NeuroColor personality questionnaire, via a link she will provide during her forthcoming presentation. This questionnaire is the only existing test derived directly from brain biology and validated using fMRI brain scanning. It is based on Fisher’s original questionnaire—now taken by over 15 million people in 40 countries. Everyone is unique. But humanity has evolved four basic styles of thinking. And as Fisher recently said in the Harvard Business Review, “When you understand how the brain works, you can reach anyone.”
