Companies with a higher proportion of women in leadership positions are on average 48% more profitable and show a 37% higher return on equity. The percentage of women in the executive suite and the boardroom has not changed significantly in over a decade. From 2001 to 2011, for example, the percentage of female corporate officers in Fortune 500 companies inched up just two percentage points — from 12% to 14%. That's two percent in ten years. Equally disappointing, they earned 13-25% less than their male counterparts.
