How to Transition from Team Member to Team Leader

Event description
Gain valuable insights on how to lead your peers as a peer leader and how to transition to manager if you are promoted to lead your peers. A panel of healthcare executives who have "been there" will share their experiences and knowledge.

Our moderator Cindy Hesterman has been a Vistage Florida chair for 14 years leading CEOs, business owners and other top executives to help them become better leaders make better decisions, achieve better results and also has been selected to conduct training for new chair members. Prior to Vistage, she held director, vice president and chief financial officer positions at Echelon International Corporation, Mac-Gray Corp. and Sun Services of America, Inc. respectively.

Julia Amadio, chief product officer, TherapeuticsMD, Inc., has a 25 year background in leading pharmaceutical marketing and product development organizations including vice president of global marketing, Healthcare Business of MeadWestvaco Corporation, vice president of marketing and marketing services, Daiichi, vice president, Aventis, senior director of new products women's health, Wyeth, and president of patients' and consumers' pharma, JMA Consulting, LLC.

Michele Gatto has spent the majority of her career at Johnson & Johnson where she is currently the director, insulin delivery, payer sales. Michele has held numerous sales management positions at J&J, including regional director managed markets, director wholesale and regional retail and national director strategic channel customers. Michele was also vice president, account management and commercial sales, Medco Health Solutions. Michele began her career in finance at Florida Blue.

Glendell Brown has served as district manager, Eisai, Inc., for over eight years. He offers 17 years of pharma experience across a broad variety of disease states. He has promoted high-performing representatives, created multiple award-winning teams across four southeastern states and successfully led teams through organizational changes. He was selected to serve on a new product launch advisory board, to act as a state government ambassador for both Georgia and Alabama, and to participate in national KOL development projects. Glendell joined the HBA via an Eisai Corporate Partnership position in June 2016 and is aligned to HBA Atlanta.

Lynn Kiehne, EdD., is currently an adjunct professor at University of South Florida, teaching masters level students organization behavior in healthcare settings. She previously held numerous healthcare executive positions including vice president, DIO, Moffit, vice president, operations, PhyCor (overseeing physician medical groups), COO of University of Florida Faculty Group Practice and director of clinical services, Shands Hospital at University of Florida. She is also a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), having served as regent for west central Florida and past healthcare administrator for Pinellas County.

Learning objectives
1. State at least three ways to make the transition from peer to peer leader
2. Create a plan of how to effectively communicate to set a leadership tone either with your peers or with a new team you would be managing
3. List at least three pitfalls that can prevent you from being a good leader of your peers
