HBA PHILADELPHIA PRESENTS

Meet the HBA: Make New Connections and Practice Your Elevator Pitch

Interested in getting to know more about the HBA and meeting some of our members? Join HBA members, leaders, and others committed to gender parity in an informal setting to learn more about HBA happenings locally and globally. These gatherings have a reputation for forming long-lasting friendships with women in all areas of healthcare, and give you a sense of what membership in the HBA is all about.

As we see the light at the end of the tunnel with COVID vaccinations allowing us to come out and mingle again, we might find that our networking skills have grown a bit rusty. Our Zoom calls at work tend to be purposeful and with people we already know. How do we brush up on our skills to network once again with people we have just met?

Why network with new people? According to former Stanford professor Mark Granvotter, it’s the power of “weak ties”. Most people find their next opportunity not from the people they directly know, but from a 2nd or 3rd line tie whose social network does not overlap.

We’ll start by providing you with an introduction to the Healthcare Businesswomen's Association. Then, we will have attendees breakout in small groups with people who are like them: business owners & consultants, marketers, healthcare providers, etc. And then we’ll do a second breakout mixing people randomly in order to maximize your network of “weak ties” – with the potential of turning them into new relationships. We’ll also practice presenting ourselves quickly using the PEEC (Profession, Expertise, Environment, Call to Action) Elevator Pitch method.

Intrigued? Bring your favorite beverage of choice and join in! We ask that you only do 2 things:
- 1: Upon registration, you’ll receive a confirming email with an ask that you give us your request regarding the first breakout group – People Like Me. Please fill this out and submit the form back to us!
- 2: After the event, we will send the registration list (name, company, title only) out to all the registrants, so they can follow up with others via LinkedIn, etc. If you do not want your name to be on this list please email Pat Thierry (in the contact list on the left) and let her know.

We look forward in having you join the conversation, learn about the many great things HBA has to offer, and meet new friends!
