HB8: Unconscious Biases with Ed Harrington and Gisela Paulsen - Palo Alto

Gisela Paulsen is a biopharmaceutical executive managing strategic and operations challenges at Genentech and Roche. She joined Genentech in 2005 and is currently vice president, global head of product development and finance global head product strategy where she leads a team who provides business partnership to product development, global product strategy, and the late stage portfolio committee (LSPC).

A champion of diversity and inclusion, she was a founding officer of Genentech Women Professionals (GWP) in 2009, GWP co-chair in 2009 - 2011. She was a 2010 Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association (HBA) Rising Star and the 2016 Council of Chapters’ President of the Year; and she received the 2014 Professional Businesswomen of California (PBWC) Industry Leader award. She served as the 2016 president and has held various board positions within the HBA San Francisco. She is a trustee of CuriOdyssey, a museum for environmental and STEM education; and experiential science for Bay area children and families.

Ed Harrington is Genentech’s chief financial officer and head of Pharma Finance North America. He assumed this role in January 2016. Ed leads the Genentech and Pharma North America Finance organizations as well as the Genentech Site Services function. He is a member of the Genentech executive committee and the global pharma finance leadership team.

Ed joined Roche in 2001 as finance director, US Consumer Health in Nutley, New Jersey. Following this role, he was finance director, US Pharma Alliances, general and administrative, tech services, IT in New Jersey from 2003 - 2006. Ed moved to Switzerland in 2006 as global head of Pharma Strategic Alliances and research and development portfolio controlling through 2009. He then joined Roche Canada as vice president and chief financial officer from 2010 - 2012.

Though most of us are unaware, unconscious bias can not only impact our daily lives but our leadership decisions as well. There are ways leaders can recognize, manage and lessen the impact of unconscious bias in leadership. Join Gisela and Ed Harrington for an enlightening discussion on how to successfully recognize and address unconscious bias.

We take care of the reservation and logistics and you bring your curiosity and enthusiasm. Registration fee covers administrative and chapter costs. Participants are responsible for their food and beverage costs. Out of respect for your fellow diners, please do your best to arrive on time.
