HBA OLD EUROPE PRESENTS

“Leaning-In” or Optimizing Gender Unconscious Bias? Strategies for Successful Leadership

Event details
Earlier this year, The European Commission released their 2013 study on the progress of gender equality. The study is based on the five priority areas outlined in the European Commission’s Strategy for equality between women and men 2010-2015; including equality in decision-making

Although much progress has been made, particularly in the significant increase of women at Board level from 11% in 2010 to 17.8% in 2014- a rate of increase 4 times higher than the period between 2003-2010, is this more a reflection of impending legislation, or true willingness on the part of big business to capitalize on natural talent and proven resources that enhance the business bottom line?

Is the “glass ceiling” self-imposed? Will it take hard legislation to break through?
Although this example comes from a European Commission report, scientific studies conducted by Yale (Project Implicit) and Harvard (Standard CV test) also demonstrate the major differences and unconscious bias shown to women when getting hired in the scientific field.

In an open debate, we invite not only our speakers and also members of the audience into the circle to discuss, debate and find your top 5 tips for making unconscious bias work for women in the healthcare industry.

We recommend two pre-reads:
How stereotypes impair women’s careers in science - Ernesto Reubena,  Paola Sapienzab and Luigi Zingales
How unconscious bias holds us back - Trang Chu

Learning objectives
1. What is unconscious bias and how does it affect women in the healthcare industry in Europe
2. Learn from Healthcare leaders how they made unconscious bias work in their favor
