HBA SEATTLE PRESENTS

Cancelled: Positioning your PhD: Leveraging your advanced degree outside academia

More and more healthcare PhD graduates are pursuing careers outside academia, some leaving their technical field entirely. However, after 5-7 years of hard work earning those letters, choosing a non-academic career can often feel like “abandoning” your PhD. During a job search, you can be pigeonholed in your very specific technical field. You might even be asked to “defend” your PhD to hiring managers. How do you build your career pathway, while leveraging the unique skills gained from your PhD?
Join HBA Seattle as we meet with four PhD-holders who have successfully leveraged their degree towards different non-academic career pathways. You’ll hear how they overcame challenges in positioning their degree, what unique skillsets from their PhD were valuable in their career pathways, and how to navigate career pivots without losing their degree’s value.
