HBA SOUTHWEST REGION PRESENTS

The Importance of Mentorship vs Sponsorship for Women of Color

HBA Southwest Region and HBA Women of Color Affinity Group (WoC) is proud to welcome Jhaymee Tynan, Assistant Vice President, Integration, Atrium Health and HBA Board member.

Join us to learn what you can do to change the paradigm for women of color being over mentored and under sponsored. Jhaymee will share her story and describe how having a sponsor changed her career trajectory. She will also discuss the reason why she is taking the bold move to Sponsor 100 Women of Color in Healthcare by 2030 and provide concrete steps for others to join her pledge.

“Part of the issue is that people of color tend to be over-mentored and under-sponsored. Having a sponsor at work can be transformational in your career, especially for women of color like myself. Research from the Center for Talent Innovation indicates that professionals of color with a sponsor were 57% less likely to have plans to quit their job within a year in comparison to professionals of color without a sponsor.”- Jhaymee Tynan

Additional information can be found in the two articles authored by our guest speaker and we are excited to have her elaborate further!
