HBA METRO WEST MA PRESENTS

World Mental Health Day: Achieving Gender Equity in Mental Health Care

World Mental Health Day is an opportunity to discuss why women, LGBTQ, and non-binary individuals are more vulnerable to mental health challenges and often unable to access the services they need. Evidence is emerging that women, LGBTQ, and non-binary individuals are significantly impacted by mental health conditions and these can have a substantial effect on all areas of life, such as work performance, relationships, and ability to participate in the community. Although mental health has largely gone unaddressed for men and women, issues of social perception, discrimination and stigma further complicate the ability of women, LGBTQ, and non-binary individuals to access mental health care services. The panel will discuss gender differences in mental health research and health care, in terms of prevention, diagnosis and treatment, from a psychiatric and patient perspective.
