In 2018 more than 39,740 firearm-related deaths occurred in the United States. This equates to about 109 people dying from firearm-related injury each day. As of September 24th, St. Louis had surpassed 2019 homicide totals with 200 total for the year on record. Violence remains an ever expanding public health crisis with fatalities of all ages. Washington University’s Institute for Public Health with close partnership with St. Louis Area Hospitals have partnered to interrupt the cycle of violence by creating alternatives to violence to reduce retaliation, criminal involvement, re-injury and death among individuals injured by gunshot, stabbing, and assault. Through this work, area health care providers hope to reduce violence that perpetuates a multitude of health disparities experienced by the St. Louis community. Join HBA for an evening of learning and growth with our experts in this area of public health practice.
