The Pacific Region Women in Science Affinity Group is excited to have an expert panel led by Neil P. King, PhD join us to discuss the current state of affairs with the COVID-19 vaccines. Neil is an Assistant Professor at University of Washington in the Department of Biochemistry and Institute for Protein Design. During his postdoc, he pioneered the development of general computational methods for designing self-assembling proteins with atomic-level accuracy. His group is extending these methods to design functional protein nanomaterials for applications in targeted drug delivery and the design of next-generation vaccines. Accompanying Neil on the panel to give perspectives on COVID-19 clinical trials and public acceptance, respectively, will be Prista Charuworn, MD who is a Medical Director at Amgen in their Global Development Inflammation group and Cheryl Lubbert who is the President & CEO of Health Perspectives Group.
The objectives of the program are the following: 1) Educate on the science of the COVID-19 vaccines and interpretation of the trial data/label in deciding to get vaccinated 2) Educate on challenges/limitations on getting vaccine distributed worldwide
